Borussia Dortmund just won a big match against Paris Saint-Germain, and guess what? That win means the Bundesliga, not the Premier League, will get an extra team in next season’s Champions League!
England really wanted to get that spot by being better in the Uefa rankings than Germany, but now it’s not going to happen. This season, the top five teams from the Bundesliga will be in the Champions League, but from the Premier League, only the top four teams will get to play.
Dortmund has already made sure they’ll be one of those teams, along with Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, Stuttgart, and Leipzig. Dortmund’s coach, Edin Terzic, said, “We aimed to get into the Champions League by playing well all season in the Bundesliga. We didn’t expect to get in this way, but our success helped make it happen.”
Over in the Premier League, Aston Villa is sitting nicely in fourth place, seven points ahead of Tottenham, who are just behind but have two extra games to play. Tottenham’s next big game is against Chelsea on Thursday night.
Uefa has added two extra spots for the Champions League next season because they’re making the tournament bigger, with 36 teams. Italy has already grabbed one of those extra spots, thanks to their clubs doing well in Europe this season.
